Objective: Use my newly gained knowledge of aquaria to create and administer a fully functional animal theme pertaining to a chosen animal from the aquarium in order to gain publicity and educate visitors on the importance of set chosen animal.
Evidence Overview: As evidence for my first objective, I created 3 signs that pertained to different aspects of the Diamondback Terrapin such as general facts (habitat, diet, size), their interactions with humans, their role as an endangered species, Turtle Soup, and interesting facts. I also created an activity for visitors at the aquarium to be able to make their own turtle using paper plates, tissue paper, and cutouts of turtle body parts. In order to complete my objective, I read through the Save the Bay educational manual that provides descriptions of all of the marine organisms we have at the aquarium. I educated myself briefly in all of the animals we have on display at the aquarium and decided that the Diamondback Terrapins were the animal I was most interested in. I not only read about them in the manual, but I also did outside research and used this gained knowledge to create educational signs around the aquarium that visitors could look at.
In doing the work for this objective, I was able to learn about marine organisms that I weren't familiar with from marine courses I had taken previously, and I was also able to use newly gained knowledge as a tool to further educate others as well which is what I wanted to accomplish in my objective. I was able to use previous knowledge from marine courses I took as a general base (pertaining to marine habitats and the regulations governing those areas) and then could use that basis to further my knowledge on the actual animals we hosted at the aquarium and their specific properties.
Evidence 1: Provide photos of the signs I created.

Evidence 2: Upload photo of completed activity.

Materials:
Paper plate
Tissue paper
Turtle template
Colored pencils
This activity is for use by young kids who are visitors to the aquarium. They use the template to color in the pieces, cut them out, and glue them to a paper plate. They then can glue cut up squares of tissue paper on the plate to mimic the pattern on a turtle's shell.
